Product Specific Information
PA1-4925 detects RecA in E. coli samples. PA1-4925 has been successfully used in Western blot, ELISA, and immunoprecipitation procedures. By western blot the antibody detects a ~38 kDa protein (RecA) in E. coli samples. PA1-4925 immunogen corresponds to recombinant RecA protein. Store at 4ºC short term or at -80ºC for long term. Figure 1 illustrates detection of RAD51 by Western blot.
General Information
E. coli RecA protein plays critically important roles in homologous recombination, recombination repair and regulation of cellular responses to DNA damage (SOS response). RecA promotes auto-cleavage of LexA repressor by its co-protease activity after DNA damage, and induces many proteins related to DNA repair, including RecA itself . Since RecA has many functions and interacts with various proteins in the cell, the protein complexes can be detected by immunoprecipitaion with the anti-RecA antibody. RecA forms foci on nucleoids in the cells after exposure to DNA damaging treatments. The foci is visualized by immuno-staining of the cells using this antibody as the first antibody.
